Karen, I love your approach to embracing French culture, complaining included (how very French of you, if I may say so 😉). I failed my driving test here twice, so frustrating. There always seems to be so much more going on in these busy little French streets than in our wide American intersections. I almost failed on a rond-point the second time, but I think the examinateur took pity on me. Rooting for you, you’ve got this!!

Bonjour Karen! So fun to see you this week on zoom, and in my inbox!

Sadly, the man with the tattoos probably does have plenty of female companions, likely ones who hope to "change" him for the better. Such tattoos are catnip to some. Yikes!

I hope things have cooled off a bit. I learned an easy conversion for more accurate temps just recently, in case you or others might find it useful.

Celsius x2 , subtract 10% of that total, add 32. So 10 degrees C would be 50 degrees F. 10x2=20, subtract 10% of 20 (2) =18, add 32 = 50.

20C = 68F (20x2=40,-4=36,+32=68

Hope to see you again soon Karen! Bonne Journee!

Coucou Amy ! So lovely seeing you too. As you know, you’re one of the amazing women I am so grateful to have met thanks to this Substack and Le Salon❣️

Oh lord I know you’re right about those unfortunate tatted calves. Yikes is the very best word for it hee hee 😂

I looked for him last night as we were in that same little village, staring at all the legs as they passed, but no luck!

Thanks so so much for this great conversion tool. I’m going to start using it and throw the other one out

Enjoy your travels and see you soon 😘😘

Thanks Karen! You are such an inspiration! I appreciate your supportiveness to all of us who absolutely adore you and your creativity and sharing. Re: tattoo-calf-man - how about the whole thought process that preceded that result? Like he had to mull that one over, then choose the artwork and then actually do it - on BOTH legs...

I guess in a way such men are little angels in our lives, reminding us without saying a word how lucky we are. :)

Yes, the reflection, the mulling, the sketching, the deciding. What color should the bikini be? How full the cheeks? Also, nothing against calf tattoos but I just can't imagine. I'm thinking, he'll never even see these masterpieces--they're on the backs of his lower legs hahaha

Merci pour ton bel esprit, ma chère. The feeling is mutual! 😘

OMG Karen! J’adore votre newsletter! When i was flying for TWA to France for 24 years, i heard and saw so much Merde from Americans that expected to be adored by the French country. My love for France has never wavered as you saw when we had our short lunch ensemble last year. I’m excited you continue to share your very open view of Our love for everything France🇫🇷. I copy some of your phrase translations for future use 🤭

Happy 4th of July🇺🇸…next we shall celebrate July 14th!🇫🇷 Vive La France

Happy 4th! I did some yard work, pulled my paltry sized garlic out of the garden, and next I'll be editing my prototype website for my new business We Wander France. I am sorry for la canicule. C'est trop chaud!!! I will never live without A/C again. What about the units on wheels you exhaust the hot air out the window? I'm guessing it's not a thing there? Thank you for showing us the way girl. I love hearing what you're up to. Much love, Meghan

Happy 4th! Any and all garlic that you pulled out of your actual garden is more than impressive! I planted hydrangeas here about a month ago and the heatwave singed them to bits.

As to the a/c, there are some portable units you can use to cool a room of course. This year my dear French husband who normally doesn't really dig "la clim" (because "it's not healthy") said that this fall we're going to shop for something for the coming years because he knows it will just continue to get more unbearable.

So happy you're here and sending love to you too ❣️
