I think you're onto something with your novel idea. Also, I'm glad to have someone confirm that it rains a lot in Paris. I thought it was just my bad luck that it rains whenever I'm there!

Love this! I had an umbrella I loved that I'd bought in Paris years ago - compact but with a strap from the tip to the end of the handle so you could wear it cross-body. I lost it, but this last September when I was in Paris I found it again at the same amazing shop on Boulevard St Michel: Parapluies Simon. Umbrellas are their niche and they do them well - since the 19th Century! My new one was très chère, but I love love love it. And it's red.
