could you do the pronunciation with a "tipsy accent"? It would help for future "dégustations".

Every time I'm on the autoroute with my husband I try to create logic around all the names I'm seeing on the exit signs but my conclusion: in the end it's just "if you know, you know" ha! Zéro logique quoi. :-)

French was not build by logic, but under the influence of a lot of different languages (celtic, latin, germanic ...). Even under the rule of language homogenization (p.e. Villers-Cotterêts 1539 ...) the aspects of the old languages are still visible in modern french (https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/u7ytwo/all_the_dialects_of_french_and_languages_in_france/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button).

If you see p.e. that rivers in France have genders and often the origin of the rivers name (celt, latin ...) determine the gender of the river (https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/6mfcgq/genders_of_the_main_rivers_of_france_oc_960x902/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button).

Also the toponymie of french cities is strongly influenced by language and history (https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/5aidc6/oc_some_common_endings_of_french_commune_names/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button). Here p.e. you see the influence of norse names in Normandie. https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/comments/fzfpz0/suffixes_in_french_city_names_hq_in_comments/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button
